Oak Tree Village - Cross-Laminated Timber

This innovative project will be the first Community Center in Washington to use Cross-Laminated-Timber.

The Oak Tree Preserve features several programs housed in a campus-like series of buildings, with intermediate outdoor gathering spaces and framed views of the tree preserve. The 18,000 SF community center complex hosts a banquet hall, catering kitchen, lounge, bar, multi-use community rooms, administrative offices, large courtyard gathering space, fitness center and indoor pool. The fitness center will serve as the second of its kind on the site, and add 8,000 SF of additional fitness space to the 258-acre development. The community is for active seniors but the community center is focused on their extended families aiming to bring the generations together.

The use of CLT for the primary structure allows large open spans for dramatic spaces that reach out into the wooded landscape. It also allows programmatic flexibility in the future. The speed of construction and the sustainable story behind mass timber was appealing to the developer/owner as they position and market the development in an increasingly competitive environment.
