Kirin, a recently-completed mixed-use building in Seattle’s Uptown neighborhood – mere blocks from Seattle Center with the Space Needle and in a thriving arts district – is an exploration in designing for today’s urban residents.

Johnston Architects is the architect for a novel adaptive re-use project and is working in partnership with the City of Auburn. The renovation and restoration project will restore and preserve the landmarked exterior of the building and reimagine the interior into an Arts & Culture Center.

In communities large and small, people looking for homes are faced with a lack of rental housing and affordable housing. The Twisp Cabin is part of a series of customizable home designs created by Johnston Architects to offer more affordable housing solutions. The adaptability of the Twisp Cabin was reinforced with new builds of the design for a family on Washington’s Orcas Island, in Alaska, and most recently, using Cross Laminated Timber (CLT).

In an effort to create unique and accessible ADU plans in the Pacific Northwest and beyond, Seattle-based Johnston Architects has designed a number of ready-to-build, Detached Accessory Dwelling Units, or DADUs.

The View from Here is a collaboration with Facing Homelessness. The piece is designed to shine a light on our neighbors who now live unsheltered in Bellevue and Seattle.
