SNOWBRUSH

Snowbrush is nestled into the forest at the foot of Lucky Jim Butte, near Mazama. An exoskeleton-like structure hovers around a glass-framed interior living space, creating a covered and protected outdoor space which can be used for year-round entertainment and extends living space into the great outdoors. The design captures a small portion of its surroundings while borrowing on the expansive areas outside to create a warm and gracious environment for all who visit.

Planned for Washington's Methow Valley, where wildfires have increased in frequency over the last decade, JA applied Firewise principles, designing the home to resist fire damage: it's wrapped in pre-weathered corrugated metal, which serves as protection from the elements - whether snow or fire. The living spaces are created with sustainability in mind achieved through high quality window systems and super insulation. Broad window walls connect inside and out, celebrating views of the mountains beyond.
