CASITA

The Casita is a small house – or DADU – that is robustly parametric, offering a multitude of potential layouts to best meet residents’ needs. Originally designed as a studio guest cottage, the Casita has been componentized with numerous pre-designed rooms that can be added or subtracted. Furthermore, it’s being developed for customization online with a simple-to-use website.

While designing a Casita online, options include three different sized living spaces, bedroom and bunk room layouts, two different kitchen and bath modules, and an optional sauna. Individuals select their preferred components and the digital model updates automatically.

As our technology expands, individuals will be able to include additional parameters – solar orientation, or exterior materials, for example – and the digital model will update automatically. Users may place the components on their site with property lines, setbacks, and Environmentally Critical Areas illustrated. As the concept evolves, we will add the capability to create real time plans, sections, elevations, and a bill of materials.

Currently designed to meet the strict structural, energy, and building codes of Seattle, Washington, the Casita’s construction documents can be adjusted to meet the code requirements of other regions as well.
