CASA LATINA

CASA Latina, a non-profit provider of services to the Latino immigrant community in Seattle, is a multi-purpose facility housing a hiring hall, classrooms, meeting rooms and a “living room” for their growing population. Since 1994, CASA Latina has provided services including ESL classes, women’s groups, and  a wage claim clinic as well as access to employment. When CASA Latina needed a new home, Johnston Architects worked with the Latino community in Seattle as well as the City of Seattle and the State of Washington to produce a solution that enhanced the neighborhood and fostered community friendships.

An existing 3,200 SF building was renovated in the first phase of the project to house offices, and a temporary hiring hall was built for the day-labor function. In the second phase, a new 6,000 SF building was built on an adjacent site. Together, the two buildings form the CASA Latina campus and include expanded program elements such as a café and storefront retail, as well as the flexibility to accommodate expanded programs and new outreach programs.
