BIG ROCK HOUSE

Big Rock House is named for the giant boulder that acts as sentry for this compact cabin in Washington’s Methow Valley. The entry drive tucks around the landmark to build surprise and anticipation to arriving at the house. Although small at 1,400 square feet, the generous veranda and patio extend the living area out into the landscape. Simplicity defines the materials both inside and out: wood, stone, concrete and steel. All the fixtures, textures and colors were chosen to complement each other, not distract from the view or the architecture. This house is small, simple, elegant and meets the needs of its owners without much fuss.
