Located in the Central District, Stencil injects an artistic sense of place into the streetscape. Stencil’s 39 apartments, retail, and live-works strive to complement, rather than replace, the existing funky neighborhood character. Small businesses line the streetscape with space to spill out into the bustling sidewalk realm, joining existing street trees retained by the project. Rusted metal siding and natural cedar lend a soft industrial character as a counterpoint to the polished gentrification occurring elsewhere.  A more solid cube-like form anchors the busy 24th and Union intersection, but mindful of residential neighbors, the form softens on the block interior frontages.
